Hospital Chapel

The ancient “hospital chapel”, or Arogyasala, sites are a product of the late Angkor period under the reign of Jayavarman VII who, according to inscriptions (most famously at Ta Prohm), ordered 102 hospitals to be built and staffed throughout the kingdom to provide public welfare and medical treatment. (Latinis et al, Tonle Snguot: Preliminary Research Results from an Angkorian Hospital Site.). The most well-known are the four that surround Angkor Thom at each cardinal point.
